Let’s kick off with Roadrunner Rentals. This company lures you in with affordable rates, but as I have learned, the saying “you get what you pay for” holds true.
The cars I have rented from them have often left me doubting their roadworthiness, with everything from dubious engine noises to tires that have seen better days.
But it’s not just the quality of vehicles that makes Roadrunner one of the worst rental companies. Their customer service leaves much to be desired.
From my encounters, representatives lack professionalism and do a poor job of addressing customer concerns.
It feels like this careless attitude seeps into their vehicle maintenance practices, too, with vehicles seemingly not inspected thoroughly before rental.
Safety, in my opinion, should be a top priority for any car rental company, but sadly, Roadrunner Rentals falls short.
2. Advantage Rent A Car: Losing Its Edge
Next up is Advantage Rent A Car. Now, it truly pained me to add this name to the list. I’ve had some decent experiences with them in the past.
However, the consistent stream of negative reviews and my own recent experiences indicate that Advantage Rent-A-Car is losing its charm.
Hidden fees and subpar customer service seem to be the major culprits.
That said, there are still some reasons you might consider renting from them.
Their wide variety of vehicles is something I’ve always appreciated. So, if you are okay dealing with potential hiccups, they might still be an option.
3. Fox Rent A Car: Sly Like a Fox
Fox Rent-A-Car was once known for its competitive pricing and diverse fleet.
However, it has recently been marred by two significant issues – long wait times and surprise charges.
Customers, myself included, have often found themselves in frustratingly long lines, especially during peak hours.

The return process is another concern. Despite the company’s ‘E-Z’ branding, returning a car involves convoluted paperwork and often a lack of clarity from customer service representatives.

Another drawback is their customer service. The team often lacks empathy and responsiveness, especially when problems arise.

In essence, while Velocity Car Rentals may be budget-friendly, be aware that the savings might come with their own challenges.
