The most common Hotpoint washing machine problems are not draining, not spinning, making a loud noise, low water level, and broken drive belts.

Therefore, we have compiled a Hotpoint Washing Machine Troubleshooting Guide to help you fix these problems.

To solve your problem, we have put together a troubleshooting guide for the Hotpoint washing machine. Keep reading till the end to find out why your washer is not working.

1. Hotpoint Washer Not Draining:

The Hotpoint washing machine not draining is the most common issue.

The first thing to check is the drain hose. Make sure it is not kinked, cut, or partially clogged. If it is not draining properly, the water level will get low very quickly, and the agitator/spinner will eventually stop turning.

Is there any material in the drain? If yes, take out the debris with a brush or toothbrush.

Also, check the rubber connections between the hose and the tub as well. Make sure they are tight. Also, make sure the drain hose isn’t blocked somewhere. If the problem is still not solved, read our complete guide on the washing machine not draining issue.

2. Washer Won’t Spin:

If your Hotpoint washing machine not spinning at all, this may be caused by a variety of different problems. You should first make sure that the spin cycle has not been turned off.

To test this, press the spin button, and if the machine doesn’t spin when you press it, this may be the problem.

The next step is to check the motor. Make sure that it is working correctly by running a load through the machine.

By comparison, if the motor works fine, but the machine will still not spin, this may be caused by a problem with the belt. A bad or missing belt could prevent the motor from turning the agitator/spinner.

Another thing you should do is check the drain hose. Is there any debris in the drain? If yes, remove it with a brush or toothbrush. Also, make sure the drain hose is not kinked, cut, or partially clogged.

3. Hotpoint Washer Making A Loud Noise:

The first thing you should do is make sure that the agitator/spinner is not hitting anything inside the tub. If it is not, and if this is a brand new washer, then you may have a loose connection somewhere.

Check the connections of the drain hose to the tub, and the connections of the drain hose to the washer. Are they all snug and tight? Is the drain hose kinked or obstructed in any way?

Next, check the rubber O-rings that are located on the tub around the drain opening. Although this may be true for all washing machines, it is possible that the O-rings may have been damaged or lost or could be bad. If so, replace them.

4. Water Level Too Low:

This condition occurs when there is a leak in the water supply line or the drain hose. In either case, the water level gets too low very quickly and the agitator stops turning.

To test for a leak in the water supply line, pour a cup of water into the bottom of the washer. If the water does not immediately drain from the cup, there is probably a leak in the water supply line.

To test for a leak in the drain hose, follow the same procedure as described above to make sure the washer will drain after putting in a cup of water if it does not, check the connections of the drain hose to the washer and the tub.

5. Faulty Machine Pump:

This is the least common washing machine problem. It occurs when the impeller of the washing machine’s pump becomes worn and stops turning. This causes the water level to get very low very quickly, and the agitator/spinner will eventually stop turning.

To test for a faulty pump, remove the access panel on the top of the washer, and remove the three screws holding the panel in place. Look inside the washer at the pump.

If you see debris in the area around the impeller or if the impeller looks loose or damaged, this may be the cause of the problem.

You need to hire a professional to fix the problem. If your machine is too old then it is time to buy a new one, and here is a list of the washing machine brands to avoid.

6. Worn Out Drive Belt:

This is another most common mechanical problem with Hotpoint washing machines. As the name implies, a drive belt goes around an idler pulley that holds the agitator/spinner and two main pulleys that hold the motor.

When one of these belts becomes worn out or breaks, the motor will not turn, and the agitator/spinner will stop turning. This will cause the water level to get very low very quickly and could cause flood damage.

To replace a drive belt:

  • You will need to remove the access panel on top of the washer.
  • You will need to take off the four screws that hold the access panel in place, then remove the panel and disassemble the washer as much as possible.
  • After you have removed all the screws, pull the washer out of the cabinet, and remove the agitator/spinner and the top cover. You should be able to see the two pulleys and the idler pulley that holds the agitator/spinner.
  • Using an electric screwdriver, remove the worn-out belt from the idler pulley and then put in a new one.

The symptoms of a worn-out washing machine belt are loud noise, and vibration, and eventually, the belt will slip off of the pulleys.

7. Washing Machine Not Filling Up:

This is when the washing machine is not getting full of water during a cycle. In other words, you may notice that your washer is only using a small amount of water during the entire cycle.

Check the connections of the drain hose to the tub. Are they all snug and tight? Also, make sure the drain hose is not kinked, cut, or partially clogged.

If this is not the problem, check the drain hose connections to the washer. Are they all snug and tight?

My washer appears to be spinning as expected, but the clothes when removed from the tub, are still “wet”, to the degree, that wringing out the clothes would result in water being extracted.

    • Hello Jeanie,

I hope you are doing great!

If your washing machine is not starting you need to check the following things:
Press the power button to start.
      Examine the outlet.
      Reset the outlet if required.
Ensure the power supply is connected.
Examine any blown fuses or thrown circuit breakers.
Check to see whether Delay Start has been delayed.
Check to see whether Control Lock is on.

If you are still unable to figure out the actual cause, I suggest you hire a technician to fix the problem because your washing machine is new, and I don’t want you to do any bad experiments on it.
